The southern French light, especially in Provence, unfolds a enchanting brilliance during winter that is hard to imagine for those residing in Germany. When I moved here, my thoughts were primarily filled with the warmth of summer. However, I overlooked the fact that it's precisely the winter sun that transforms this region into a true sun paradise.
With an average of 6 to 7 hours of sunshine per day, Provence offers a completely different sense of life in winter compared to regions dominated by gloomy days. Even on colder days, it has the soothing ability to warm.
Winter in Provence reveals its most charming side – sun rays pierce the cool air, bathing the landscape in a gentle light and inviting you to enjoy outdoor living. On wind-sheltered terraces, dining outdoors is a common occurrence throughout the year.

While many visit Provence during the summer months, it's often overlooked that due to climate change, it can become very hot. This prompts most locals to stay indoors until 5:00 / 6:00 PM, avoiding outdoor activities like swimming in pools or the sea. In my opinion, the winter and, especially, the transitional seasons of spring and autumn are underestimated as travel times. Although not peak summer, they offer considerably sunnier and milder weather compared to Germany.
Beyond the summer season, the region unfolds its authentic beauty, partly because it's much quieter, inviting you to bask in the sun in a relaxed and mild ambiance. Explore Provence away from the hustle and bustle and discover why these seasons are undoubtedly worth a visit!
