A day trip idea in the Luberon: Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt

I’ve actually set myself the goal of discovering all the villages in Provence – especially those in the Luberon. Last week, I went out exploring again and discovered a village that’s a bit less talked about: Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt.

Since it’s not tourist season yet, I was almost alone in the village. But a few locals I spoke to told me that even in summer, it doesn’t get too crowded and has kept a very authentic feel. The small cafés and restaurants reflect that too – nothing feels overly touristic, everything is simple and real.

So I can absolutely recommend visiting.

It’s not just the charming little streets and historic houses that make it worth the trip, but also the castle ruins above the village and a small chapel, from where you have a beautiful view over the Luberon. You naturally find yourself walking higher and higher through the streets without even noticing, until you reach the top.

One thing that really surprised me were the small information signs. I usually find them quite boring, but here they’re actually full of interesting little stories.

Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt is located just a few minutes from Apt, so it’s perfect for a short trip in the Luberon.

The easiest way to get there is by car, park at the entrance, and then explore everything on foot. I’d really recommend just wandering around without a plan – that’s how you find the most beautiful spots.

Have fun there!
